I have a marketing idea for a national company and possibly more companies that?

share the same outcome, it may even be a technology idea for this company. Does anyone know what I am suppose to do next? Does it need a patent first? Do I share the idea with the company even though it could work for other companies also? I don't know what or how I introduce this without knowing if it a good idea or not for this company I just need to know what the best next step to take. I definelty want to keep it confidential right now until I know what to do. If anyone can help me with this I'd truly appreciate it.

You're going to have a tough time here. You'd have to speak to a patent attorney -- or at least someone with some knowledge in that area -- to assess whether your invention would likely survive all the patent hurdles. Even then you'll have to invest a lot of time and money to write the patent app correctly. Most companies will not discuss "ideas" with outsiders unless you first disclaim all rights to the idea. Often they won't in any case (its a byproduct of a lawyered-up country). My suggestion would be to find somebody you trust who has a good business background and share it with him. My experience is that an awful lot of "brilliant ideas" turn out to be not so novel or impractical. If so,that person will probably tell you so. If your idea really is novel and practical, you might want to think about starting your own business around it.
